And in what societies the Jews lived in a (relative) peace until 1948, you know the year where an entire people was depossessed of their land ?
I have a very slight doubt....
But I don't worry : Bernard Lewis and Daniel Pipes will find soon that Hitler was a crypto islamofascist ! Contrary to the expressed criticism in this blog, Israel's current borders and enemies derive not from Jewish efforts for a "greater Isreal" and the obviously impossible elimination of tens of millions of Arabs, but from Arab intolerance and mistakes which started long before 1948 and continue, unabashedly and without "codes" to the present. These include the Arab's long repression and massacres of the pre-state Palestinian Jewish minority,or in the case of Jerusalem, the 19th century Jewish majority. The Arab leadership also manipulated and caused hardships for the Palestinian Arabs, using them as pawns in their desire for complete regional rule. Add to this 60 recent years of various Arab leaders threatening Isreal's extermination, actually starting repeated wars, and when that fails, sending women, and children as suicide bombers, and rockets against civilians. Faced with this history and current circumstances,no responsible and capable people or government would act differently than Israel. Sometimes, and this is one of them, there is simply a right and wrong. If all nations followed moral principles, instead of cowering behind greed and politics, it would be a more peaceful and better world. President Bush has not succeeded in that goal but I believe he is trying, be it from a religious or statesman's perspective.History will give him much credit if good triumphs over evil.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8746692.post-29542019995975582472008-06-09T11:44:00.000-04:002008-06-09T11:44:00.000-04:00This essay raises thoughtful concern about the rol...This essay raises thoughtful concern about the role of religion in politics. That said, you need not look for "code" in the language of the Arab Muslim world.

Listen to Syria's President Assad (Israel betrayed Christ) or Hamas (the Covenant: "[there is a Jew]. . . kill him"), the Jerusalem Grand Mufti's alliance with Adolf Hitler, Nasser ("throw the Jews into the Sea") etc., etc.

The Arab Muslim world has a very limited place for Jews or Christians - not to mention the anticipated fate of Buddhists, non-Muslim Africans and other people who are not "of the book".

To focus on President Bush because he expresses his belief as a Christian - when he supports the creation of an independent Palestine alongside the State of Israel - is picayune, if not hypocritical.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8746692.post-23542000423206870152008-06-07T16:18:00.000-04:002008-06-07T16:18:00.000-04:00Trust me, steven, we know. I also recall a lampooning campaign slogan contest at Daily Kos from 2004: "Bush and Cheney: Building a Bridge to the Thirteenth Century".

Bush has just given an interview to Italy's news program, TG1 (Gianni Riotta) in which he promised to make Italy a member of the so-called 5+1 Group. He concluded the interview by saying once again that he reserves a military option against Iran. Canaan is the land of the Canaanites, which is the land that was to be promised to the sons of Israel once they exterminated the Canaanites. And the town of Bethlehem preceded the arrival of the Jews there, as did Jerusalem in fact.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8746692.post-21718513944832652482008-06-07T10:29:00.000-04:002008-06-07T10:29:00.000-04:00Nice analysis!
