The original movie is well worth watching.
I have started J C D Ckark's The Enlightenment.
It is a big time game changer in Western Civilization historiography, and properly debunks many of its ideas, now almost universally shared, self reinforcing, ubiquitous, and misleading ideas, not merely the idea of "The Enlightenment".
Several other Clark works, about British isles hostory, and Thomas Paine, are companion works.
