Quick query

Readers,

Branica.com keeps track of the hits on this site, which have been stuck at 8-900 per week for quite a while. ( I keep hoping for a new breakthrough.) It also lists the referrers for the last 100 hits or so. Here is the list of the top referrers:

Self Referring / Bookmarker

Google Search

That didn't come out quite right--the highest number should be the bookmark number, with google search second. But I'm very curious about what the "blocked referrer" is, if anyone can tell me. .. thanks.

Hi David,

I enjoy your work. Thank you for your effort.

I can't answer your main question, but in terms of a breakthrough, the key is almost certainly a referring link from a major site.

My site, which is mostly referential in nature, was receiving a very modest number of views per day until about a year ago, when Glenn Greenwald linked to one of my posts. During the subsequent 24 hours, my site received over 70,000 hits, and, predictably, a small percentage returned, and still return on a regular basis (I average around 1,500/day).

So you might want to consider alerting some of the high-traffic sites to your better posts, and if one (or more) were to link to your site, I suspect that you'd enjoy a sizeable increase in readership.

Best regards,

Tony Cobitz

Some people like to block the referrer info as a privacy measure. For example, here's an article on the subject with a link to a Firefox plugin to accomplish same: http://bubble.ro/How_to_block_referrer_detection.html
