What has happened to journalism. . .and academia. . .and Hollywood

I am vacationing, but a substack I get pointed me to this remarkable article about changes in the job market in journalism.  I had already witnessed the parallel changes in academia--where they have also extended to the highest levels.  I would not be pointing you to this article were it not so well-documented.  I'll be back with something of my own next week.

The article documents the male part of the equation very well, and it is a true account. But, what males are experiencing since the U.S. decided to try to offer employment equity to women and minorities is something that women and minorities have experienced since the dawn of time. It kinda hits home when it happens to us white males while America adjusts.

To be more specific, I am all for every person having equal opportunity for equal skills. I am, however, against putting any lesser-qualified person in a position over a better-qualified person. Affirmative action, properly executed, doesn't espouse unthinking quotas, but does affirm that if you want real equity, you can find a woman or minority who IS the best qualified for the job. It takes work, but it is worth it for the benefits it brings to any work group.
